Special Issues are a significant component of ITS journal contents which provide researches in emerging fields or detailed analysis of specific hot topics or contemporary theme. The aim of Special Issues is to broaden the scope of subjects focusing on the specific area out of the wide topic.
How to select a topic for a Special Issue proposal?
Lead Guest Editors should select a topic that is related to their own research interests. The topic selected must be hot, broad and attractive enough to collect multiple high quality articles but at the same time narrow enough to provide a focused and cohesive collection of articles.
Does ITS provide a template for Special Issue proposal?
Yes, ITS offers the proposal template to give some guidance while proposing a Special Issue. Please download the ITS Special Issue Proposal Template to complete the proposal form. When the Special Issue proposal is finished, it should be submitted to special.issues@itspoa.com.
What is the confirmation process of a Special Issue?
Once the proposal submitted, the Editorial Board of journals will check that whether the title, aims and scope are appropriate to the journal selected. The Editorial Board of journals also ensures that Guest Editors are desirable. The proposal submitted may need to be revised and resubmitted. Until the proposal and the Guest Editorial Board are accepted, the proposal can be made online.
How many Guest Editors should be invited?
The Lead Guest Editor should invite 5-10 qualified Guest Editors to assemble a team. Guest Editors should have enough time and energy to handle the articles submitted efficiently.
How many articles should be covered in each Special Issue?
Each Special Issue can be created with 10-30 articles. Generally speaking, the proposed Special Issue needs to collect 20 articles for a Special Issue to be successful. If the Special Issue fails to attract 10 articles (the minimum number of articles), all the accepted articles will instead be published in the regular section of the journal.
Are there any benefits for Special Issues Editorial Team Members?
Yes, no Article Processing Charge is made for the editorial, Special Issue Editorial Team can also publish another two articles in the Special Issue for free, for one article is from the Lead Guest Editor and the other article is from anyone in Special Issues Editorial Team.

Special Issue Editorial Team Members need to write a Call for Papers and share it widely. For example, invite students, friends, colleagues or some experts who are active and sociable in the field to submit papers or solicit papers to the Special Issue, upload it in facebook, twitter, google+, linked in to promote the Special Issue, collect papers when attending some conferences and etc.
